1904 Susquehanna River Flood at Berwick
These photos are dated February 9, 1904 by Eli B. Lundy, Berwick, and show the Susquehanna River at flood stage at Berwick. The view appears to be looking east at Nescopeck and the second photo shows part of the covered bridge floating away.
My great-great grandfather David J. Coder was born in Luzerne County, Nescopeck area, in 1812. His father Rev William J. Coder was a Methodist circuit rider. Patte Kelley Bridgeville, PA
Welcome to the rich history of Columbia and Luzerne Counties in Pennsylvania !
I was born in Berwick and enjoyed a childhood full of small town life and lots of relatives. The rich history of Berwick always interested me and when the genealogy bug bit me I began collecting all sorts of tid-bits from the area.
My family settled early in the Nescopeck and Salem Township areas of Luzerne county and in rural areas of Columbia county. Luckily they mostly stayed in these areas and left clues to their lives. These blog posts are some of the tid-bits I gathered, many from my Grandmother, Jennie Rough Moore. She was the keeper of family letters, photos, and cherished items. If you see something posted and want more information or a clearer photo, please e-mail me. And if you are researching some of the same families, let's compare our findings! Enjoy!
